She's Treated Women's Hormones for Over a Decade. Here's Five Reasons Why She Recommends Women Switch to Decaf

Natalie was clear that she isn't anti-coffee, and neither are we. Most of our customers still start the day with caffeine. The conversation was about women who are starting to feel the negative impacts of caffeine and how decaf can save their most cherished ritual of the day.

1. Caffeine jitters aren't you being sensitive. It starts a chain reaction.

Coffee on an already stressful morning adds cortisol to a system that already has plenty, and cortisol moves blood sugar. A spike, then "a rebound, like a dip." The jitters are what both ends of that swing feel like. Not caffeine hitting you, but your blood sugar at its peak and then at its floor, producing the same shakiness twice. That isn't sensitivity. It's a curve, and the same ritual without the caffeine leaves it alone.

2. A racing heart after coffee isn't anxiety. It's adrenaline.

Caffeine reliably increases adrenaline, the same hormone your body sends before a bungee jump or a nerve-wracking first date. Same racing heart, same shakiness, no bungee jump. Natalie pointed to a second mechanism too: caffeine "depletes sodium," which shifts blood pressure quickly. So the pounding isn't panic. It's chemistry, and the same cup without the caffeine doesn't start it.

3. Caffeine doesn't leave when you think it does. A half life is only the halfway point.

A half life of four to six hours clears half of it, not all of it. Full exit takes eight to twelve hours, so a 1pm coffee can still be working against you at 9pm. And in perimenopause the margin narrows, because the nervous system is already "under a lot of extra load" carrying a hormonal transition. Move the afternoon cup to decaf and the maths disappears.

4. You get your afternoon back.

Natalie raised this part herself, unprompted. Asked what she tells clients who love coffee, she pointed at decaf as something that can "fill in for that beautiful ritual and taste and depth of flavour." Which is what the cut-off was actually costing you. Not the caffeine. The cup after lunch, the one after dinner, the one because it's raining.

5. You keep your standards about coffee.

Natalie had one condition: "providing you're getting a good quality decaf, of course." That caveat is the whole problem. Supermarket decaf sits in a warehouse for months, and coffee that old tastes flat whether or not it has caffeine in it. Decaf takes the blame for staleness. We roast daily and dispatch within 24 hours, so nothing about your standards has to change.
