Love me a shot of the caffeinated 'sidekick' blend first the in the morning. Has a nice strong yet smooth coffee flavour which is second to none!
Good neutral blend, nothing fancy, tastes like coffee and has caffeine!
I've tried two bags of these beans (as I was sent a second bag for free).
The second bag produced a fairly traditional, Italian-style espresso, but really not much in the way of depth or complexity, unlike the awesome decafs from here. Darker and more bitter than today's specialty coffees, it really wasn't my thing (I threw half the bag away), but it wasn't terrible. Hence 3 stars.
The first batch was a different story. The first Sidekick beans had a burnt smell in the bag, which was not promising. If I hadn't known it was coffee, I wouldn't have been able to tell from the aroma. The flavour profile of the resulting espresso was also dark, bitter & burnt, with a lingering bitter aftertaste.
I put a lot of effort into dialing in the grind settings and shot ratio, but couldn't produce anything even vaguely drinkable. This would have received 0 stars given I didn't get a single coffee from the bag.
To their credit DecafCo sent me another bag to try with my next decaf order.
So bag 1: 0 stars, bag 2: 3 stars
I'll be sticking to the decafs, which are awesome!
